Live Bait Box mystery

Heys would like some help in solving this mystery.

Put a Nylon live bait box in Perrin Creek about 1m deep last night with some chicken necks in the bait compartment. When we went to pick it up this morning there was no fish and no bait. When we looked closer there was a 10cm hole above the bait compartment where they got in and took the bait. Was thinking maybe a type of bird or shark? But could you get Shark in Perrin Creek?

If it was exposed during low tide then possibly birds, or cats. Crab maybe?

teeth, knives and bird beaks will make different holes. we could send it to csi!

i'd be inclined to go with rat. shark would swallow/crush it from below, bird would get bored probably...
