Need bits for my tinny

Derrilex

Recommended Posts

Hi all, well I finally dragged my tinny out this morning and went over to the yammy dealer to price some bits. I'm after electric start for my 25cv, a steering and throttle kit and a side console. I was told that the starter kit would be $ 2000. WTF. The motor cost $ 2300 brand spankers. I stopped asking prices at this point, got a new fuel line fitting and the hunt for second hand bits starts now. I can live without electric start, but I'm looking for throttle and gear control box and cables, and a steering system to suit a yammy 25 cv approx 2000 mod. Any suggestions where to start looking ?.

For the remotes try some of the wreckers you may strike it lucky. For the side console and steering Glasscraft Marine at Bulimba are advertising a closing down sale or Whitworths usually have a 15% off sale when the tinney and tackle sale is on.Probably a lot cheaper to fabricate your own console.

Cheers

2k for the electric start is b crap! $800 for the new starter then what ever the fly wheel cost to suit, i doubt its 1200 for a fly wheel! i had a mate with the starter will see if he still has it and willing to sell! you will just need the fly wheel then!

Flywheel is 900 + the electrics + the starter which is like you said 800. Then add labour if you let the dealer fit it, which I wouldnt need to. I can live without the electric start, dut the steering gear and throttle/ gear control is what I'm chasing.

there generally a few yamaha 703 control boxes on ebay for round $150

teleflex gear and throttle cables are $35-$40 at whitworths

or you can get generic gear and throttle control boxes pretty cheap at bias, id go this way if you arent going to worry about the electric start and power tilt/trim

Hi all, well its been a looooong time since I was on this forum. I wont make any excuses, Ive been slack. The tinny is finally getting somewhere. I'm putting a ganat swing away console in it ( google it ). It comes complete with helm, wheel, throttle box and cables. Just need a steering cable to finish it off but the length depends on console location. I had to buy the steering / throttle fitting kit from the dealer ( stones ) and paid through the nose for it, but thems the breaks. The console arrives from north Qld on Monday 21 st and fitting up begins ASAP. Anyway, a few pics of the rig as it stands now.

Great looking mods.

At one stage I looked into changing my boat from tiller steered to a small centre console.

All up price I was quoted was $2500 and my 25/4 yammy already had electric start and a remote trim & tilt button.

Needless to say I stayed with the tiller steer.

Ok, the console has finally arrived from ther north. First impressions are very good. Fabrication looks quiet good, welds could be a little neater but I'm anal about things like that. Fit up will begin tomorrow. I'll do a step by step with photos for everyones benifit. But for $ 1200 I reckon its pretty good value.

This is what you get for $ 1200

back of throttle box. Main criticism is the lack of cover for the back of the box. Might box it in with ally sheetto give some protection from the elements

Ok, fit up went well. I made just a few more holes in the bottom mount:whistle: . Gear shift and throttle cables are terminated but the cables themselves need securing. Just a steering cable to go

Throttle and gearshift fit up - after removing tiller. Genuine fitting kit made it easy and neat

Ok, got a few bids happening on ebay for the controller and steering gear. On another note, can anyone reccommend a good ( quality and price)fabricator to put bow and side rails on ?
give jason at jt marine fabrications at jacobs well a call, does good work at an honest price. tell him rob sent ya, and ask if he's started smokin again ? it's been a few years now, and say g'day to him for me if you get in touch with him.

I think the floor will be fine, its 16 mm marine ply but where the console sits is right above the welded ally frame work that supports the floor. I should be able to pick the frame up with at least 3 big stainless coach screws, and just through the ply with the rest.
do not be fooled, your floor is not marine ply, it's just plywood.
