can anyone explain why you need to do this for rocky reef fish? i have no problem being compliant i just don't understand the requirement.

Not entirely sure on the exact details but it's a sign of proof that those fish aren't going to be sold commercially by recreational anglers without a pro licence. So fish from the markets should have all their fins intact.

yep you guys are spot on it stops the black market trade from recreational fishes and helps protect the jobs of hard working professional fishos the only other fish other than reef fin fish you must clip pectoral fin on is the spanish mackerel

yep thats right leighton there are a wide variety of fish that fall under the rocky reef fin fish catagority plus spanish mackerel to be done and to be safe i clip all reef fish wether they are caught in a river, bay or outwide when bringing them home as it only takes a minute to do and saves those fines at the end of the day

Its also very annoying to fin fish during a really hot bite.

ridiculous, but true - catch a legal estuary cod in the river/bay and if you keep it you have to remove one pectoral fin.

it's all come about from the small minority that are rec fishos that sell there catch and have made it dificult for the rest of us that do the right thing.i've had offers but i for one have never sold any of my catch but my family all eat fish regularly and so do my parents so there is never any problem keeping up with diet of my clan. professional fishos have there place in society to supply aussies a feed of fish and this black market trade robs from them and i for 1 see how hard they work to make a buck. if it wasn't for this minority doing the wrong thing we wouldn't be regulated like this
