Retrieving Minnow Lures??

Hey Guys i'm really new to fishing and i'm want to start out using lures. I know you have to cast and retrieve metal and float lures, but just wondering for the best results for minnow lures do you have to retrieve after you cast or can you just cast and wait. I know its a simple question, but any feedback or advice would help.

Also i'll be posting a fishing report tomorrow or Friday about my trip to St Helena

My answer to your question would be yes, a retrieve is ideal.

At the end of the day lures are meant to simulate (geeez nearly typed stiumlate there), a live bait. That working your lure accordingly is best.

If the current is ripping through an area it is possible to suspend the lure in the current and thus create the desired motion. However this is the exception to the rule.

Some people have also had success casting out Berkley Gulps and just leaving them. But i think your referring to Hard Body Minnows?
