queensland 2 fish Mid River today with poor clip- ID needed.

went out today about mid-day for a bait fish.

I was fishing light with my Gary Howard 1-3 kg loaded up with 8lb braid and 15 lb leader.

I was using live prawns I expected to catch catfish, which is what I wanted so I could give the 1-3 kg a run on some weighty fish.

Anyway after 10 minutes I hooked a nice 44cm flatty, didn't really stand a chance as the 1-3kg handled it with ease.

Bit later on I hooked what I think is a Grunterriver perch.

It went pretty hard and the GH 1-3 Kg handled the fish admirably.

Got a few pics and a very poor video link because I was mucking around with my camera.

I also have no audio so hope it does not sound too bad and there is no swearing.

Can someone confirm the species please as It does look like a river perch , definitely not a Jewie, just have not seen any river perchgrunter at 55cm that far up, it was also quite A thick fish.

Your on the money.

It did have the spangled markings, you cannot quite see them on the pic.

I was not too sure as I have never caught one in the river.

And a very nice grunter. Does anyone know how far up the river they travel? I remember catching one at Newstead.

nice grunter mate. good to see them up river. they really do put up a good fight. they taste pretty dam good to!!
