What to look for in a baitcaster?

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at bait-caster reels on the internet and Daiwa seems to have the monopoly on bait-casters- price limit is $310.00 for Brisbane river and estuary work.

I was also considering the Pfueger or Okuma ranges as they might offer more bang for buck these days to remain competitive and move into the market.

I like the Daiwa Advantage , but not sure if it is small enough for the 2-4kg rod I have. The Shimano Curado also looks good. Both of these reel are in the same price range.

Some of the improved parts I have noticed on the units I have looked at are

Ball-bearings

gears

antibacklash

Aluminum frame

smooth drag and various other things.

What do I look for in a bait-caster reel?

There is so much variation, can someone narrow it down, also is anti backlash a good feature or a gimmick?

Cheers
