It's the start of tailor season so I'd be guessing they are on the cards.

I'm heading up there the w/end after you, Make sure you do a report on whats biting. Fish Mainly but also very interested in those bugger sand flies, let us know if any are around.

Have a great trip. :)

report below from fishing monthly - Hervey Bay area,

Weekly Report 22 Jul 10

Along the beaches there's been some nice summer whiting caught this week. Schools have been scattered from Pialba to Urangan, with Shelly Beach being a popular spot. Yabbies and worms have been the best baits. Winter whiting catches are still consistant with schools of fish present south of the harbour, out the front of Gataker's Bay, Dundowran and Toogoom. Yabbies, worms and squid have been working best; with Berkley Gulp worms being a good alternative. Excellent numbers of large bream can be found at the Urangan Pier, with most fish being caught early morning or night. Small herring and mullet gut have been working best, with a few fish also being caught on soft plastics. Flathead have been another good target, on livies and soft plastics. Off the end of the pier, fishing live baits and spinning metal spoons has produced tailor and school mackerel. Just remember to keep an eye on sizes as there have been plenty of smaller fish in the schools. Local squid (southern calamari) are also on offer this time of year both day and night, so its worth carrying a few squid jigs.

Flathead numbers are improving and are best targeted on the bigger tides. Soft plastics have been the most consistant way of catching them, with paddle tails like Squidgy fish being a favourite. Bouncing metal blades and vibe lures over the bottom has also been effective. Those chasing bream on soft plastics, there's been some nice fish caught around the Picnics, Kingfisher and the creeks on the western side of Fraser. There's also been plenty of small trevally in these same areas and provide good sport on light bream tackle. Gulp shrimp, Squidgy Wrigglers and Powerbait MF40's have been working well.

Those chasing a feed of school mackerel or tailor, good numbers can be found on the Arch Cliffs 6 Mile, Burrum 8 Mile, around River Heads and Ungowa. A variety of methods have been working including: spinning with metal blades, trolling hardbody lures and barra spoons, jigging plastics and live baiting. Again, keep an eye on sizes as there are plenty of small fish in the schools. Weather permitting, reasonable catches of snapper have come from the Arti, vicinity of the Fairway Buoy, Burrum 8 and 12 Mile and the 25 Fathom Hole. Soft plastics and Lucanus Jigs have accounted for some nice fish, along with; whole pike and winter whiting, butterflied yakkas, gar, herring and fresh squid.Brad

Hey guys had a great weekend at Inskip with the wife and dog. Such a great spot to go to! Fishing well that is another story. I ended up with a baby tailor around 20cm, Ghost crab and a puffer fish for two days of fishing. Not too many bites was a bit windy on Saturday and Sunday.

On hte way up Teewah beach came across 6 guys with a big net and a tinny off the beach and they must of had about 60 massive greenbacks in hte net they were putting into boxes. So they racked that whole gutter clean. Didn't see anyone catch anythign on rods all weekend really. Saw loads of trawlers come in around the bottom end of Fraser into the passage there looked like nets were in the water but couldn't see properly they might of just had the booms down cleaning nets.

Was still a great weekend away fishing 4wd, with the wife.

Mate we camped up at Inskip on the beach. When you head up the beach from rainbow beach township you come round a point opposite the bottom end of Fraser we were about another 200m up under some nice trees. was a great spot about a 50m walk to water. was a nice gutter out from there. Just drive up find a gutter and camp directly behind it.

great spot to fish, but when they are netting, fish as far away as possible. can be a hit and miss place. walk on the barge to Frazer, with light fishing gear, backpack, cool refreshment, & throw 10-30gm slices at bait schools that frequent, either side of where the barge lands. you will often see sml types tuna, awesome fun on light gear. dont worry about the lines of cars cuing for the barge. that bit of water holds baitfish. you can walk a fair way, so you can fish where the swell pushes through the channel, but that can be windy as. go west, more sheltered. there's a campsite around the corner, & up a bit,(Google earth your fishing friend) its a lucky dip. you can catch 50lb gts, mackerel, all sorts of monsters in that piece of water, as well as whiting, lizards, sml- med-lge trevally, giant herring, tailor, thats what I have caught there in many previous trips there. the choice spot to camp is right up the end on the right. there is a picnic table, good tent sites, & most importantly, close to the water, sml poddy mullet can be caught,( castnet) other side of road, in the sml lagoon on the left. enjoy.
