Excellent numbers of bass & barra are being caught & released at Lake Lenthall, which is now down to 59% and the water temp varies between 21 & 26 degrees depending on prevailing winds and cloud cover. Winter seems to be very slow arriving however it does look promising that it will be a wet one, lets keep our fingers crossed.

An unusual amount of surface action has been prevalent with some anglers reporting the familiar sounds of barra \" boofing \" at certain times of the day around the lillies. One catch & release angler reported that he caught 9 barra to 830mm in a four hour session using hardbody lures which included a shallow running Lively Lures Mad Mullet in the blue / silver colour. Bass up to 490mm have been taken on soft plastics, Cordell bibless minnows & Kokoda G Vibe's in the shallows. Best retrieve for bass has been slow rolling the lure, whilst barra seem to attack lures on a medium to fast retrieve. The most productive area of the Lake has been the southern end towards Wongi Water Holes or more specifically Doongul & Logbridge creeks are the areas firing really well. A notable catch earlier this week was a 580mm Golden Perch on a soft plastic paddletail grub.

A Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) is required by all persons over 18 years of age before casting a line. Money raised from the SIP scheme is used to purchase native fish fingerlings, most of which will not reproduce in the impoundment. Tick Lenthalls on your SIP to ensure your money goes back into your fishery.

Paul Dolan from Fraser Coast Sport Fishing Charters reports that its been a busy month with clients capturing good quality bass & barra on lure & fly.

We still have a commercial Eel trapper working the Lake and to date ( 1 month ) he has caught 2200 kgs of live Long Finned Eel. A massive 9.4kg Eel is the largest taken so far, one can only wonder how many fish & birds an Eel of this size would devour.

The Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association (FCFSA) will holding its next monthly meeting on Monday 11th of June at 7.30pm out the back of the Hervey Bay TAFE. All interested parties are invited to attend. FCFSA are releasing 4000 50mm Barramundi fingerlings tomorrow ( Friday ) at 11.00am feel free to make the trip out for a look at the baby Barra, meet the hard working crew and to enjoy the recreational area.

Go on get out there.

Cheers

James Matts - Ranger Lake Lenthall.

Thanks a lot Big Unit, I'll be up there 25th to 29th of June, going to stay at Burrum heads (Could not get the cabin at Burrum River)a bit more travel time, but rather stay somewhere nicer than Maryborough!

Barra will probably be hard work by then, bringing my sons up for a few days to give mum a break in the holidays.
