i'll start the ball rolling here ok.

why is it that if i use say 4lb fishing line of any sort! that i even need to use a leader! material of a heavier line class? as if the line will break anywhere it would be apparent that it would break at the weaker line reguardless of the heavier leader, trace??? is this not true ??? and also by tying a knot in the lesser of the 2 line classes, further decreases the strenght of my lighter line?

using a mono class line here in both instances her, not braid !

I think i understand what your asking, and i rekon the answer is abrasion resistance, the leader is the part that will be rubbing up against the fish scales/skin/teeth, or brushing up against structure.

abrasion resistance i dont use one with mono only with braid i will only use one if i need a heavy leader eg flathead i will up to 12 pd and i use a leader with braid for abrasion and for a bit of stetch i use flurocarbon cos thats what they reckon with lures but hasnt helped me at all

some of the dumps have recycling center's ,they usually have the latest gear .
