hey all

ive decided to upgrade from my stradic fi 1000 to something a bit bigger and better, ive been looking at both the diawa caldia and the ci4 and i dont know which one is better or if anyone could recommend a good reel that size.

my price range is 200-300. ive always had shimano gear and would like to try something else. i will be matching the reel up with a 1-4kg jewel. the line im putting on it will be sunline rockfish 6lb super pe if any one would like to recommend some line as well or if they have used this line before all help would be appreciated. i would also like to know where to buy the diawa caldia because i cant find any online tackle shops that have a 2500

cheers ryan

get in quick mate! These are run out stock as the new model will come in soon, if you're willing to pay full price for the new model, would be worth waiting. I was looking at the 2506, but decided against it because of the disgraceful spool capacity. The 2000 has quite a reasonable capacity though, details on http://daiwafishing.com.au/?p=3259

I just picked up a caldia from Ray annes, $189 with free delivery is a pretty good price!

I went with the 2500 cause I'll be using it with a 2-5 Kg rod for heavier applications. but if your using a 1-4kg maybe the 2000 or 2506 would be a better option?

Good luck with your choice, and like Jords said, I'd get in quick cause they won't last long!

Cheers

Justin

Thats air spools for you. I have one in 2506 and love it, pretty unhappy that the new caldia wont have air spool models! If you get the right line you will easily get 150m on the 2506. I fitted about that quantity of suffix 832 in 10 lb.

But back on track, I would go the caldia, have never had an issue with mine, and it has been used heaps and been tested by quiet a few good sized GT's, and won may I add.

hey i have felt the stradic c14 its pretty smooth. I would say that in the long run the stradic would outlast the caldia. Daiwas are also under oiled/greased compared to shimanos which why i think the shimanos may not feel as smooth but they maintain theyre smoothness. After owning a sol and a caldia i wouldn't rate either compared to the stradic. my opinion though

jords the diawa website has different specs to the 2000 like it holds 135m of 6lb and the rayannes website for the 2000 only holds 70m of 5lb and they both have different drags just wondering are they different year and they have upgraded or what the go is.

Not too sure mate, I looked and a few of the other reels have the right stats (as per daiwa website). The 2000 seems to have the stats as the 2004?

I reckon order it through them and just in the additional comment section, add in that you want to make sure it is that reel I guess. Have heard exceptional things re their customer service, would think that you wouldn't have an issue (don't hold me to that ;) )

I'm currently using a CI4 4000 and have also owned a Sol 2500 and feel they're both pretty equal, if I had to pick one blindfolded i'd be happy with either. Only thing I can add is forget about drag pressure because to be able to use the 7kg of drag that the Daiwas or Shimanos have you'd need a rod rated to somewhere around the 10-15kg size. Smoothness of the drag is more important than the max drag available. If you matched it with a 2-5kg rod or similar you'd probably run 1kg of drag at the most. Personally i'd save the pennies and wait for the new model Caldias as they're miles better then the current models.

Cheers

Keepa look out for the JDM raremium which is included in shimano australias new line up!

I got a sneak peak at the new shimano catalogue at Tackle warehouse the other day

The new reels should be ther this week from what i was told

Rarenium are pretty much the same as stradics but have a lower gear ratio which I favour

Really good bang for buck

Seen 2500 for $269

Check it out link below

I got my eye on a 5000 rarenium :)

A lot of people love the ci4's but Im not a fan, the few I have tried (and 1 owned) just don't have the sexy smoothness that you get from Daiwa reels

The gear ratio a heaps diff shimano more of high speed daiwa more like a power gear

Compare the stradic ci4 and the Rarenium ci4 see the diff
