Tips for Graphite Rodz

1.

High sticking is a way of describing the angle of the rod in comparison to the angle of the line. It needs to be understood and avoided at all costs.

2. Allowing the fish to run under the boat creates the same line angle as high-sticking, so always walk around the boat and keep the angle of the line at a maximum of 45 degrees to the tip of the rod, even if it means having to keep the tip of the rod in the water until you can get to where the fish is running.This is not the best situation to be in, as the gunnel now has to be cleared, and there is no control over the fish, but it can be resolved.

3. If unable to get to where the fish is heading, starting the boat to reposition yourself can be the best way of avoiding a broken rod and regaining control.

4. Don't allow graphite rodz to bounce around in the bottom of a boat or back of car etc. without support to cushion any jarring. Graphite bruises very easily and any uncushioned bouncing of a rod will create weakness in the blank. Nobody likes to lose a fish, only to realize it was through incorrect rod storage.

5. Always know where Rodz are positioned when in a fishing situation. They can easily be forgotten when casting if they are in rod holders etc. The excitement of a potential hook-up can draw attention away from the need to be constantly aware at all times.

6. Always wash Rodz and Reels thoroughly after each use, especially when salt-water fishing, paying attention to each guide.

7. Store Rodz in a rod tube if possible when not in use.

8. Keep rodz stored out of heat to avoid any warping of the blank.

Good idea Ray, we get a lot of people bringing back \"faulty\" graphite rods that are broken. More often than not it is due to the way it was handled and stored.
