Just got a letter from my power company, power costs going up (roughly) 15%.

Thanks a lot Juliar. I dont qualify as the working poor, so no "compensation" for me either.

I'll just have to cut trees down to warm the house in winter instead.

The wife works for an energy retailer that targets businesses. She's taken a couple of calls in the last week from customers surprised to find an increased bill in one instance of $24,000 and another of $12,000.

Can't remember which one but one of them doesn't think they will survive the increased cost.

....but there's no telling some people.

My wife got a call yesterday from a power company offering 12 per cent discount to what we are paying at present.

She rang our current provider & they offered her 10 per cent on a 2 year contract.

Staying with Ergon Energy,as changing provider is a hassle.

Just goes to show, you just have to ask, the competition is obviously pretty tough & you might get yourself a good deal.

Carbon tax is charged on full rate, not the discounted amount you get charged.
