seal in symetre

I bought a 2500 symetre 3yrs ago and only used it 3 times pulled it out 3 months ago and found it a bit hard to wind took it down to my dad's house to have a look and found thet the seal was dragging and decided to cut it out runs easy now .

Has anyone had that problem and is it ok?

when you say "the seal" what seal do you mean?

when you undo the the nut and screw that hold the part that spin the line and take it off there's like a blue o'ring about 4cms inside on the edge

would that be as in where the handle goes into the body of the reel?

Either way, it was probably there to help keep water out of the reel. It's probably too late now, but next time, do what you can to clean it and then oil it (if you hadn't already done that). Removing parts from a reel is generally only going to weaken it somewhere.

Thank you next time I'll clean and oil,but if it gets me a couple of years I'm happy just got to look after it a bit more

my symetre was like that aftr i cleaned it , it was stiff to wind in and i thought it was shot . forgot it was stiff and grabbed it and went off flicking plastics and kept casting and snagged a 54cm flattie that took the drag for a decent run and it seemed to fix it ??? im guessing something in the gears were out of whack after the clean and the drag running flat out aligned it back up

Good to know that other people have had similar issues too,and mine work nicely now without seal.
