Just a (probably stupid) question

Hi all,

Now I have 10lb braid on my reel. I usually target flathead and use a 10lb-20lb leader but sometimes fish for bream and use 4lb-8lb leader depending on the structures/conditions etc..

I have always kept the 10lb braid as my mainline because I wouldn't think it would make a difference as the fish won't see it due to the rod-length of leader. Or do they?

So my question is, why do many fishermen change the braid size along with the leader size depending on the target fish?

If anyone could clear that up that would be great!

Thanks

Sam

Because they are victims of all the blarney from tackle makers to suck em in to buying more.

I'll change line size to suite the rod I'm using when at the extreme ends of the spectrum, otherwise I dont bother. EG if I'm using a 1-2kg rod its because I'm throwing small lures and thinner line gives me more casting distance, If I'm chasing pond donkey's its usually the 8kg rod and heavy line - in between, its all the same size.
