I couldnt wait till tomorrow for a fish so I headed out late this afternoon for a few hours fishing the mooring at the mooloolah river. got there around 3pm, first look at the water and I knew id get a few, it had cleared up dramatically since us boys were out there in the yaks last weekend. Heres a few pics to give you an idea of what the structure in this area is like

casting my way up the jetty and around my 10th cast I got hammered on the drop set the hooks and line started peeling off. after 3 good solid runs I got sight of a very nice bream :woohoo: :woohoo: but he had one last run in him almost doing me around one of the pilons. all tuckered out I pulled him up onto the jetty straight onto the mat for a pic and back he went.

went just over 40cm

Wow what a start I thought, worked the whole area for a good 45 mins more without a touch so I walked around to the rock wall at the mouth of the river to throw some slugs around, and see if I could rustle up a tailor or trevally but an hour solid and not a single it was back to the moorings.

next fish was a flatty that actually fought surprisingly well

I continued to work th boats until just after dark, getting 2 more bream

30cm

How do I work them ok

I would use a lighter head if I could but the current really runs in this area so 1/12th is normally minimum unless on the change of tide. I always work the lure the same way as the current letting the tide do half the work. I cast out letting it sink half way to the bottom while windiing in any slack line (no rod work yet) you will often get the fish on this initial drop. when the lure is roughly halfway in the water coloum I give the rod tip a quick shake (hard to explain) I use my wrist to sort of pulse the rod tip giving like 10 very quick short twitches then let it sink a little more and repeat with just a one or two lift retreive thrown in amongst the shakes. the fish really go off on the shake
