The report's author, Professor Will Steffen, says reaching the goal will be a challenge, given greenhouse gas concentrations are now at the highest level on record.

"We need to put in place a very clear pathway to a decarbonised economy within the next 30-35 years and that's why it's so important that people realise that the numbers are clear and simple," he said.

The numbers are always said to be clear and simple, ARE they really clear and simple.?

Am I being too cynical? after all, a lot can change in 30-35 years, those of us who were around in the 70`s can testify to this.

Back in the good old 70`s,life was so much simpler. :)

Nimbin and many university campus`s around the nation were deeply into chemistry and floating on Highs.

The Reds were still hiding under our beds.In Qld,Joh always knew: “ddddon`t you worry about that… I`ll take care of that!†( Joh also warned us about the extra fading the curtains would experience, because of the extra sunlight hours they would be subjected to,if we went along with daylight saving times that the southern states wanted to trial. :(

At Nimbin during Easter 1970,stoned resident feral,‘Bruce the Goose’,declared “ Man I looove Mother Earth, she sucksâ€!

Anti-Vietnam war, save the bullfrog and anarchist public demonstration challenges were met head on by the government of the day with a few hundred baton wielding, hob nailed boot wearing police, in those days the RSPCA, nor the animal rights movements, nor the fore runners of PEW protested about police horses being ridden into the protesting rabble, so it was always game on. No Xboxs` or Play Stations in those days.

American Senator Gaylord Nelson stated, ‘we only have one earth, so we need to take care of her’.He was disturbed that,an issue as important as our environment was not addressed in politics or by the media,so he started the first Earth Day,on Wednesday April 22,1970. :cheer:

An estimated 20 million people across America attended the many gatherings and rallys to hear scientists and other‘save the planet’exponents, tell us “that the numbers add up and the message was clearâ€: :S

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.†• Kenneth Watt, ecologist - Earth Day, 1970

‘We have about five more years at the outside to do something.’:blink: Kenneth Watt, ecologist - Earth Day, 1970…....

Sorry Kenneth,(and the 1970s‘save the planet here comes the Ice Age-rs’)….40 odd years later one must ask:

Q 1- what did happened to that impending little ‘Ice Age’ that was coming?

Q 2- Did Kenneth Watt, ecologist - Earth Day 1970, go on to greater climate change revealations or is he still, deep in the back country chopping up firewood to get him through that impending little ‘Ice Age’? ïŠ
