Another Day in Paradise

Hi everyone!

Managed to sneak out for a fish during this picturesque weekend and even though I completely and utterly out fished, it was still a great day!

We started off fishing some deeper water with prawn style plastics, but we couldn't seem to get a fish! In fact the whole day was pretty much fishless until the late afternoon, when the trevally fired up!

One reason the fishing was so slow was the amount of boat traffic on the river, but being an awesome day you'd expect that.

Cale Cale trevally (or long jaw trevally) was the target species of the day, and in my opinion they are (pound for pound) the hardest fighting fish in ocean!

They are also extremely finicky with numerous casts right in their path not even getting touched. They seem to get fixated on small "fry" about 2cm long, and when they're feeding like this they are pretty well impossible to catch.

This was Kyle's first cale cale and he was stoked to finally catch one!

They seem to have better colours when they're smaller...

The last two were huge and took plenty of line which made landing them difficult due to the busy traffic!

All released, of course.

Right at the end there was the double hookup from hell!

Check out the size of this barracuda looking thingy (any ideas what it is? I'm thinking a pike on steroids...) which went mental on the light gear! Tim's GT was actually a solid fish, but compared to kyle's it didn't look very big!

angus, all good fish were pulled as boats were driving past - "more wobble, more gobble!"

Funfisher, were you on a ferry wearing a suit? was a cracker arvo!

Sweresy, on the right tides + times it can fish very well! And thanks for the feedback!

kmcrosby78, would have been a bit over a meter, and around 6-7kg.

Hfisho77,hell yeah Kyle had his work cut out for a while! Very lucky not to get bitten off too!
