Took the kids up to bulwer yesterday for a day of swimming and to catch some squid.

Great day with awesome weather and an esky full of large squid.

Left for home round 2 pm and going past Curtin I thought I'd have a quick drift and try out one of these micro jigs I got the other day.

First cast, waiting for the jig to sink and zzzzzz a bloody marlin jumps out of the water!

16lb leader and another couple jumps and head shakes and it was all over.

Thought I was filming on the gopro but I didnt hit the record button.......daughter was filming on my phone but all i have is some great footage of her feet.

That was my first marlin I've ever hooked and in one hand it was cool but I was so ill prepared and I kind of wasted the chance to get it boatside. Could have played it a lot better, I was stuffing round trying to turn the boat on the last jump and allowed the line to go slack..........might have had a chance at it otherwise.

Shame about the marlin, but on the brightside the squid are easier to

fillet and get in the esky. :pinch:

would have been quite an effort to land a Marlin on light leader. What a surprise for you.

Bastard squid made a mess of my boat and thank god the Mrs didn't see what was going on in the kitchen when I finished off cleaning them.
