queensland Deception Bay

Out on the bay this morning the weather left a bit to be desired but the fish are wet anyway

The prawns were going off and so were the big mullet. Out on the weed patched sand flats were some bream, good fun to start the morning. Then around the mangroves and rocks was the honey hole. Flathead everywhere. Apparently they are getting into lots of pots. Anyway. I got 2 on a berkley 3 inch minnow on a 1/12th jighead, I went lighter so that bream would have a go too. Along one of the rockbars I hooked something massive and heavy with a lot of go. It stripped for 5 seconds and the the leader gave in (6Lb). I assume that it was either a trev or an estuary cod. You have no idea how much I wanted to land that fish. Went like a train.

Nice one mate, sounds like a fun session. Bad luck on the freight train - that's always the tricky tradeoff when going light. If it's a cod it might be there next time - fingers crossed!!

Dom - on your yak you have that wooden pole with the Oates sticker. Is that your homemade version of a stake-out pole? Unlucky on the bust-off, go back there again, it will be waiting for you.

Yep. that was me. I had made a stake out pole because earlier on I fished some shallow water and we got some bream. Should be after that bust off as soon as possible. Any chance I may be able to recognize who you are. Did i see you out there, did we talk. Any luck fishing too.

Dom - like getrigged said I saw the pole in your pic mate. When you go out next, I wouldnt mind tagging along, I have never fished Deception Bay before, most of yakking is in the canals.

It might be a while though because things are busy. Will be going back to he GC canals again for a few days.
