Hey guys, I hope you are enjoying the wind.

The day before yesterday (don't even know what day that was because I'm on holidays) I took my brother out in the boat for the first time. The plan was to head up to the area I saw tuna and mackerel the last couple of trips and hopefully boat one this time and not just hook them.

We left the dunwich marina at daybreak and the conditions were magnificent.IMG-20151226-WA0029.thumb.jpg.86dc4ccc52

We actually almost pulled the pin on the trip but decided to sit it out at a beacon. That way if we flipped at least someone in a bigger boat would see us :PIMG-20151226-WA0026.thumb.jpg.10dff3d58c

The southwesterly died and by 9am we had beautiful conditions once again so we continued on.

We got up to the pelagic grounds and sure enough, saw longtail straight away which was exciting to say the least. My brother isn't an overly keen fisherman so it was good to see him get excited too!

We had a few goes at them before I managed to hookup on a plastic. A 7 minute fight followed before he tailed it and got it in the boat. He did a great job getting everything ready and driving the boat as he has never done it before. Tuna fishing is definitely a team effort so I was stoked how well he did without any boating experience.  IMG-20151226-WA0016.thumb.jpg.fda465fb50

I have some tags from NSW DPI for longtail tuna, so put one of them in him and speared him back. It swam off very strongly.

Next the spotties came to the party. A lot of the time they were mixing with the tuna and hooked a couple that way. On one occasion we got a mackerel to the boat and it's mates had followed it and just hung around the boat. So we just left the fish in the water and dropped our lures down to its mates! We hooked a few that way which was very fun watching them eat the lures and my brother got his first spotty.

We only kept one for a feed because the little amount of ice we had melted, so we had to leave the tuna and mackerel biting and make the hour trip back to the ramp. I have no doubt we would have hooked more fish had we stayed!

It was an awesome day and we both had a lot of fun :)
