Watsons Bay, Sydney

Hey all,

A bit of a late report, but I couldn't get the pics off my phone until I got to work.

Headed to Sydney once again for some work, and after talking to Angus, he suggested heading out to Watsons Bay for a bit of a fish if I had the time. Since I had Sunday off, I thought that sounded like a great idea instead of sitting in my apartment watching tv.

Left the apartment at Darling Harbour and made the walk towards Circular Quay to get the ferry over. Arrived 5 minutes after a boat had just left, and it was 45minutes until the next one. Bugger:angry: . Eventually got on the ferry and took my seat at the back. What a beautiful day to be out on the harbour. First thing I did once I got off the 40minute ferry ride was run straight for a bathroom. Chilly winds and water all around really set my bladder to "as much pee as possible" mode and it was an agonising final 10 minutes:blush: . With a skip in my step now:laugh: , I made for a walk around the streets behind the houses on the water to find me a fishable spot. Found this little park here and thought... looks fishy. Tied on an sx40 in that clear bottom, yellow top combination and had a flick at all the likely looking places. Worked this spot for maybe 40minutes, to be disturbed by 5 phone calls, and 1 fish. Have no idea what this little guy is but he was a trooper. He had all three points of the trebles inside his mouth. Anyone know what he is?? had a couple of yellow whiskers under his chin. Didn't get anymore action here so went for another walk. Now here I though.... DEFINATELY a fish. To cut a 2 hour trek short, I caught nothing. Not even a touch. I tried an sx48, a 2inch powerbait on a 1/16 jighead (lasted 3 casts before I caught a jetty), and unweighted 2inch powerbait (didn't really cast too well). Nothing, zip, zilch. No one else was fishing this area so it was a bit odd. But I think this place would be good with a little slug/spoon to be worked quickly. Looks promising for a litle pelagic or something along those lines. [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/04052008663_AFO.jpg

Went back to my little spot before and had a flick around again. Wish I hadn't. Jagged my sx48 on a pilon and lost it. :( So anyway... by this time it was around 2:30 and having caught jack***t and bieng on my feet for 3 hours I thought i'd call it a day. Was good to get out and about and to see a nice part of Sydney Harbour. Sorry Gus, didn't end up having fish and chips from Doyles. It was PACKED. Anyway... I think next time I'll either throw some pillies out, or try a different place. Cheers for getting this far if you're still reading.

Yeah, it's a type of Goatfish. We get a few of these offshore from the Tweed:) Different species and size though. They look pretty cool aye:)
