We were following this on the radio today. Terrible hit & run accident.

Police interview boaties after diver run over

WATER police are investigating an alleged hit and run incident in Moreton Bay today that has left a man, 65, with serious leg and internal injuries.

The Brookfield man was diving with a friend at Yellow Patch near Flinders Reef when he was struck by a boat, about 12:15pm.

His friend helped him to safety and contacted water police as the vessel responsible continued on.

A doctor on board another boat provided medical treatment for the injured man until he was airlifted from Moreton Island to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Water police have since spoken to the three men on the boat involved and investigations are continuing.

heard the whole story play out over the radio today... very not cool... just an aside, it took 17 minutes from when the police request went to the helicopter rescue to helicopter landing on beach at moreton to take the poor bugger to hospital. that is awesome IMO, and knowing that sort of help is around makes me feel a lot safer on the water and probably saved this guys life. if anyone knows the skipper of a boat called nautilas, a 30ft noosa cat, big-ups to them as they offered assistance in the form of a medical practitioner on board to stabilze the patient pending ambulance and heli assistance.

and as for the pricks who drove off... love to meet them down a dark alley one night with kostya tzu and chuck norris in my back pocket...

Hopefluu just a tragic accident, and he did not realise he had struck the diver.

Its often hard to see divers in the water, remember its only 6 knots within 30m of the dive boat and often divers are a lot further away from the boat than that!

Often people do not even see the dive flag, its not a common sight for your average bay fisho.

How about we let the whole story play out before we bag the driver of the other boat. he may well have not even known he hit something or someone.

Excert from the media release

The man was airlifted from the island with serious leg and internal injuries to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. It is believed the three men onboard the boat that struck the diver initially continued on however they were later in contact with police and police have now taken statements. The investigation is ongoing.

From the radio chatter that was going on, the boat that hit the diver did hang around for a brief period before buggering off. There's a chance they didn't know what to do, and without a radio probably didn't know they had to hang around for the police to get there, as stupid as that makes them sound.
