Meeting success

A total of 41 meetings have now been held along the East Coast to gather stakeholder views on the future management of the Inshore Fin Fish Fishery. Over 1200 people attended the meetings and provided feedback on the fishery.

The meetings have generated some highly constructive feedback from a wide variety of fisheries stakeholders. Meeting facilitators were pleased with the number of people who attended and found the comments and ideas highlighted some important issues and potential solutions for the fishery.

Some of the key issues discussed throughout the consultation included size and bag limits, the current lack of access to fisheries resources, ways netting arrangements could be simplified, closures and better regional consultation and management.

Records of meetings are available online for attendees and other members of the public to see. The first round of meetings are available now and further records will continue to be published in the coming weeks. Record of inshore fin fish public meetings

Note: The views will be considered by the Government in developing a draft Inshore Fin Fish Fishery Management Plan, but do not, at this point, represent Government policy.

Make your opinion known

Some very important and useful information has been gathered from the stakeholder meetings and there is now clearer insight into the key issues that are prominent across the State. A questionnaire will be distributed soon to gather further information on some of these common issues and ways in which these issues might be addressed.

The questionnaire will be mailed out to all people who left their details when attending the public meetings. If you would like to be added to the distribution list please call 13 25 23.

Fish fact

BarramundiBarramundi are \"protandrous\" meaning they change sex from male to female. All barramundi are born male but change to females at around the age of 7 years and then reproduce. To ensure the sustainability of barramundi, there is a maximum legal size limit of 100cm which allows females to reproduce.
