Fishermans island

Just bought a yak and want to take it out tomorrow and try my luck fishing around Fishermans island. Is there any areas I must stay out of and is it safe to yak around there? What can i expect to catch?

If you are into fresh water fishing, I'd like to offer an alternative:

A group of us are off to Baroon Pocket Dam (up near Maleny) tomorrow. So there will be at least 5 kayaks up there. It's a great place to have your first kayak fishing adventure. I think my first one was there. That way you can paddle around, get a feel for everything and don't have to fight tides etc.

Also, the waters just outside fisherman island might be a bit choppy with the 15/20 knot wind expected in the bay.

Thanks for the info mate. Cant make it to Maleny, thanks for the offer though. May just have a paddle around the mangroves.

If you pare paddling around the mangroves Flathead and Cod are a serious possibilty.

If you see rock walls, have a go for bream and cod (maybe a squire).

Jimmybob did pretty well with the cod from the rocks there just recently.
