Collecting livies in the river

Gday All,

On some recent trips to the lower reaches of the Brisbane river we've had some mixed success with the capture of live bait. Mostly throwing a cast net around the poo shoot.

As I've only got a reasonably small vessel it gets a bit monotonous battling winds, swell and the more than odd occurrence of bow waves from huge bastard ships :ohmy: coming into the port.

Is there any other decent live bait spots we could give a try??

if u can get up into brekky creek - its poddy mullet galore with herring mixed in for good luck

brekky creek....if you can get down on the pontoon where the gondolas moor.....just chuck back in towards the bank - not much water there on a big low but prawns should be a pretty easy catch. plus herring, mullet, whiting etc.

ive caught some decent sized herring and bananas off the boatramp near there too (brekky creek, near the gondola pontoon)

also climbing up and casting over the rails without actually going down to the pontoon, so the net lands right infront of the pilons holding the wharf thing up (sorry if that doesn't make sense?)
