Big Blades for Big Fish

Recommended Posts

After reading of the success of small blades for fish such as bream, was wondering if larger blades would be any good for bigger fish. The size i'm talking about are about 4 or 5 inches for species such as mackerel, tuna, wahoo and possibly even marlin. Would these work for these fish or would you be better of sticking with skirts and x-raps/halcos???

Have heard of AJ's and yellowtail kingfish being caught on larger blades but mackerel, tuna, wahoo, marlin etc. would have to be a long shot. You would have to get lucky and cast right in front of them.

Aj's, kingies etc. are quite doable as they tend to ball up baitfish deep in a small area.

Trolling halco's etc. will be far more effective as you will cover way more ground.

20-30 years ago, the last time blades were the "in thing" there were much bigger sizes available, see quite a few of the oldies coming out of the woodwork on Ebay. Some interesting stuff about. Lozzel also showed us one last night he bought in New Zealand about 6 years ago, 100mm lovely iridescent purple, got Cod written all over it!
