shark lures?

i am very keen to try my hand at trolling for sharks, from my kayak. can anyone help me with this? like what lures would be good for this? is there anyone that has had a go at this?? Thanks

hey, i no that trolling for sharks is popular ova in the united sates, but not sure about here, they seem to use alot of rapalas, also u could go onto www.meltontackle.com or www.tackledirect.com and see wat else the use

those squidgy blue water livies and larger sized slick rigs they wont last long maybe 1 or 2 hits then its gone, personally your better off trying with a mullet imo.

Try a rigged dead mullet trolled or a garfish, I don't think plastic will really work. But every now and then a shark or two pops up on a lure. :laugh:

ok so maybe lures are not the thing? they do do it in the US. so is it ok to troll around with a dead bait? do ya have to troll slow, like on a drift?

A large mullet fillet might do the trick. Will be interested to know how you go. Never tried it for sharks before.

just drift a live bait they will eat a live bait over a dead bait 10 to 1

in my opinion to set baits out for sharks in a kayak you could get more than 1 shark turn up or a large shark come for a look and they have been known to bump skis and kayaks i personally think u could get into a dangerous situation and u would be better off land based or on a bigger vessel

Have got 2 sharks and lost one on Predatek Vipers in a Tarpon colour.

Your best chance is to troll around headlands/reef and around schools of mackeral and tuna.

hooked up reef sharks at Scarborough and Wello Point on pilchard colour predatek vipers. Not the target species and a real handful on a kayak to get my lures back

havnt heard of this before but slab of mullet or troll those cheap big w lures t i think theyre outback lures or somethin theres a lure that looks similiar to a pilchard.

some very good tips thanks! i know that its not a safe form of fishing, so i plan to get a shark shield asap. So i hope that will help a lot. As far as i know there are a lot of sharks, in the bay. And i don't think to hard to catch when ya work it out. I would like to look into tagging too. as im not out to kill them : )
