Spooling Baitcast reels with line

Hey guys and girls,

It's been about 8 years since I seriousky used a baitcaster, and I've just purchased a Saltist HRF.

I've spooled it with about 30 Mtrs of mono backing, connecting via an allbright to 20 Lb Fireline smoke original. It took a full spool of 114 Mtrs and this has filled it to the spool lip so to speak.

Not the very edge of the spool, but the lip where it curves and joins into the frame. In ecsence, there is about 3 millimetres of spool still visible.

Does this sound right?

Back in the day it was kind of just wind and go, you know.

Worked sometimes, unless the mono went doen the gaps between the sideplates and spool on my ancient butterworth baitcaster. Nasty...:sick:

when you are learing to cast a baitcaster you are spos to leave a bit like that, it just means it will be a bit more easy to cast, it should be fine
