Picked up young Dan before dawn with promises of big W escapees to be caught.

It was cold and a thick fog blanketed the river. We launched as the sun was rising and we worked opposing banks. I had a walk the dog on and attracted a a couple of spangled perch. Dan was having no luck

A first for me and a real treat was seeing a couple of platypus up close. I saw a swirl and watched them for a while and they come over for a look at me.

When the fog lifted around 8am and the sun hit the water it really got the fish firing. I was first with a small one that gave me a bit of curry

Not exactly the escapees we were after and a bit soul destroying when they do a really good impersonation of bass sometimes, including the surface strikes and trying to brick you in the snags.

Was definitely disappointing that the bass didn't come out to play, and even more dissapointing when you think you had bass, then up pops a dirty catty. B) It was good to get out though, and give the hobie a run, perfect conditions as well. :)

How do you score a trip like that? Its a point for each non-vermin fish and negative 1 for each vermin. Do you carry over the negative score to the next trip, or is it a blank canvas?

Still it looked like a really nice spot and a very pleasant way to spend a lazy few hours.
