Relief for state as floods forecasts ease

FLOOD-HIT southeast Queensland residents can rest a little easier.

Potentially flood-bearing conditions predicted late last year by the weather bureau have eased.

The bureau has wound back its prediction for heavy rain from 75 per cent to 50 per cent, meaning it expects average conditions for the rest of summer and autumn.

Bureau climatologist Jeff Sabburg said the Indian Ocean was warming which reduced the chance of rain. "It's a good thing compared to where we were last year," Dr Sabburg said……
