How far down down can you catch jungle perch does anyone know?

I think fraser island is the most southern place you can catch them?

I think there is supposed to be some very small pockets of them around SE Queensland and may even possibly be some down around the Clarence area somewhere.

And the locations are very closely guarded secret.

Hopefully, fisheries at Bribie Island will solve the problem of getting them feeding once the fry have absorbed the yolk!!!!

Really Lance, that far south? My cousin has been telling me about a spot that he says has them and I've been skeptical thinking he was referring to spangled perch but I might just have to find out now.

South of Gladstone they are a distinct sub species and apart from the Fraser population criticaly endangered. Best to keep your location to yourself and leave them alone Ant.

So I take it going by Luc's comment they are still trying to rear them in hatcheries.

I'll leave the population that I may know of alone, partly because it is a hell of a long hike in by foot and partly because it only takes one other person to see you go in with rod in hand and that's the end of it.

The research station at Bribie has brood stock from most populations.

They can breed them at will but at this stage, for some reason once the fry absorb the yolk, they don't start feeding hence starve & die soon after.

Fisheries is trying to work out if they haven't hit on the right food or are not providing the right trigger to get then to start feeding. I believe that some of the brood stock fish are over 3KG!!

It will be great when they solve the feeding problem. We'll be able to restock areas where they've disappeared, another possible species for stocking not to mention getting little ones for the aquarium trade. Beautiful fish in fish tanks.
