can you guys recomend a decent rod for chasing tuna pn slugs in the bay etc i have an epixor high speed 50 to put on it any ideas very welcome:)

or a 7 foot 6-10kg spin ugly stick at the other end of the price range

mine's a bws70a i've had it for years caught many many tuna, mackeral and big trevally on it.

I have about 5 different rods I use for throwing slugs at tuna, a style of fishing I do a lot. Four of those rods are various Ugly Stiks. My current favourite is a Ugly Stik Platinum SP11762. This is the rod Tony used to catch his nice birthday tuna on Monday.

The rod is 7' 6\" and a two piece so I can break it down to throw it in the car or carry it on a plane. It is softer than the traditional tuna sticks of the eighties. A softer rod still casts very well. You can ease into the cast rather than having to punch it as you do with stiffer rods. Still throws a 50gm Lazer a very long way.

More importantly the top half folds over when fighting a fish to take the leverage advantage away from the fish. Similar to short lever stand up rods.

I also find this rod far more useful than the gut buster tuna sticks for other styles of fishing like fishing softies for snapper, spinning tailor, etc.

The SP11762 still rolls over solid fish quite easily.

If you have a look in Terry's post \"New Rod'n'Reel\", My second post has a good rod for chasing Tuna in the bay. Up to a certain size. It is an 8\", 2 piece, 6-8kg rod for about $75. It is a Silstar Cristal Powertip rod.

Running 20lb Bionic braid on that reel, 8kg Platypus Low Stretch on another. (Good guess Jeff).

That rod has been discontinued but another (improved) tuna stik has been added to the Ugly Stik Gold range. The BWS802M is a ripper! 8' two piece 6-10kg rating.
