PM Notifications via website gone?

I no longer get email notifications which i know has been raised before however I'm not even getting any notifications via the website anymore

there used to be the little red flags that would appear for messages etc..

Is there a setting to turn this back on or is it a bug on the site?

I'm using firefox as always and it's been fine except for the above item
