"The Jack Marathon": Online Competition

G"day to all, well had one last shot at a jack over the weekend but to no avail. Over the past 4 weeks i have been hitting the coomera river, mostly the canals and main bridge pylons with a varied selection of fish including, jacks between 20 and 40cm biggest being the one i weighed in. Most of the jacks have been getting done in on the infamous Z'man Minnowz, either pink/chartruse, motor oil and white pearl all in the 4" size and rigged on a tt's snakehead weedless jighead 3/0.

Of course the usual hunting ground for these little red devils was the "cragyest little spot you would never cast a lure into" , but utilising the weedless set up was well worth the effort with not one lure lost to a snag.

The Flatties were still around willing to play, with quite a few pan size models being landed, a feisty little cod around 45cm who "bricked me" quite few times until a heavy hand removed him from his "hidey hole".

Some small trevally either big eye or gt" (not sure of species) have been hanging hard along the rock edges of the canals hitting small baitfish and carving along the edges chasing jelly prawns.

During the start of december i found myself on one weekend fishing with both cboy and brissy yakker down on the coomera once again

brissy yakker working the pylons

and having been smoked on a big jack under the m1, i decided to upgrade the gear i have to 30lb and yet still being "Smashed" quite a few times by BIG Jacks i think i will have to upgrade again for the next season, they truly are an obsession. EZY

What's not to love about summer dawn's?

Report:

Well Better late than Never!! Cobiaaddict a mate Bryan (who waited too long to register for this competition doh!!) and myself headed up north of Brisbane for a weekend of Jack fishing! Although it wasn't as good as previous trips we still managed 12 Jacks between us for the long weekend. We also managed 2 Barra, a grunter and numerous baby cod and flathead. Unfortunately day one saw me catch a Jack and I left my bloody comp form back at camp! lucky I caught another 3 the next day ;) All my fish were caught on my new second hand Reel I picked up when I was in Japan a couple of months ago. A Shimano antares AR! beautiful reel which I matched up to a rovex airstrike 8KG rod. I was a little dubious about the rod to begin with seeing it sells for as little as $50! but was quite impressed, I even managed to "snag" a couple of decent sized Rays which came to the boat quite easily.

All Jacks over the weekend were caught on 4" plastics fished weedless except for one which hit a hardbody, there would have been a good 6 fish which didn't hit the hooks due to being weedless, better that then loosing heaps to the structure!

Angus, I hope I have laid this post out correctly! let me know if it needs work.

Cheers

Brandon (aka S-K-I-P-P-A).

Guys people always winge and ask why we do not allow external photo hosting on the site... This is a great example. I cannot verify this entry.

Sorry Angus, I did check that it was working at the time of posting.. Anyways I will re-compile the post shortly.

It appears that my entire Jack album in Dropbox has disappeared:/ Anyways I have re-posted my entry below with pictures uploaded to your site (it wouldn't let me do all 12 in one go?). Sorry for any inconveniences.

Cheers

Brandon

Well done to everyone who competed!

A shame South couldn't cough up a third fish but it has been tough locally for the jacks so far this season.

Thanks Angus for putting the comp on it was a great concept!

Thanks to all of the sponsors also things like this couldn't happen without sponsors. They are all great prizes too.

Cheers Lochie.
