The trap she is holding looks like a very familiar design

Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol teamed up with Seqwater for a joint compliance patrol on North Pine Dam just north of Brisbane.

73 freshwater fishing traps were inspected, with 16 non-compliant traps seized.

In freshwater areas, fish may only be caught using:

- a fishing line that consists of a hand-held line with or without a pole, reel or rod 
- a trap that can be a canister trap, collapsible trap, dilly trap, funnel trap or round trap 
- a scoop or dip net (cast nets and bait nets cannot be used).

North Pine Dam is on the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme so you’ll also need a permit to fish there. They’re available online, at Australia Post agents and selected sub-agents or by phone. For details

Can someone explain why that is non-compliant?

Looks OK to me. I've built several over the years from 2 waste baskets with coke bottle funnels as this one pictured is. That one probably lost its nametag.

Non compliant = does not meet the Qld fisheries regulations regarding freshwater traps regarding types, sizes or owner's indentification.

More than likely not market correctly.

I got pinged once because because the rego numbers on my boat were 2cm to short. I got a warning because it's a "Non finable offence"
