Taking Out Some Newbies

Weather looked good for Sunday morning for a fish, so I thought it was a good opportunity to take out some mates who are inexperienced fishos. The bay was glassed out when we arrived at 7 to launch from Wagners ramp. Straight to the beacon for a quick sound around, but with no bait around, we quickly moved onto the north-eastern corner of Mud Island. It was the first time taking the tinny out that far but the calm conditions made the going easy. We pulled in a mix of reefies - a couple of squire, a number of smaller sweetlip and the odd bream. We swam in 2m of water just out from Mud and it seemed like the boys had a great time fishing. Jakes sweetlip (pictured) was his first fish in 12 years and before that he had only caught toadfish. Besides the lack of size, it was a great day on the water and great to see some mates hooked up and having a good time. 

Also upgraded the tow vehicle from the 1.3L 4-cyl Jimny to a much nicer 2.7L V6 Grand Vitara. IMG_2392.JPGIMG_2391.JPGIMG_2396.JPGRBDI5530.jpg

We didn't even measure the grassy, I think it was about 35cm?
It was spooky alright! even though the water was clear and we were only in 1.3m, nobody strayed far from the boat...
A bloke at the boat ramp told us he was fishing over the Eastern side using big dead prawns and fought a 2m bully for half an hour :no:

Not sure if you keep fish for a feed but if you do you probably don't want to hear that the minimum size for grassies is 30cm ........ :)  Oh and there are plenty of sharks in the bay that'd take a decent bite out of a 2m bully ........ ;)
