Can anyone help me identify this little guy I caught today in the Broadwater on the Gold Coast?

Interesting capture!!  At first glance I thought some type of gurnard but after doing a quick google I can't find one that fits the bill.  @aussie123?

looks like a cross between a red gurnard and a rock whiting. In saying that I don`t know

I've always called them a Grubfish.

There is a huge range of variants in them and quite a lot of common names too.

Very common around the inshore waters.

Grub fish also known as a rock whiting. Very tasty but quite a lot of bones.

Hi Shane,

That's a pink banded grubfish  Parapercis nebulosa also known as a bar-faced weever or rock whiting as said above. Seem to be associated with rubble/broken ground rather than sand and seagrass habitats in my experience.
