Here's a pic of a feral pet I got on the weekend.

There was about four of them, all  last years pups.

Will work on the others as I go.

Yeah, constant problem.

Some properties shoot trap bait and a lot don't,

I've got a neighbour doesn't even carry a gun when they're running around.

So if they see a dog they can'nt do nothing except say hello.

It's a good sport, I put a few traps out every so often.

Is there a bounty in your shire? I used to get $10 a scalp when I was a kid in Calliope shire.

No Brett, some councils do, more so out towards the sheep country.

Worst is the town dogs that roam in packs, got to be carefull of your

own safety.

Yes. It's a big problem in lot's of places.

It's not far away from you. I know a bloke near Murwillimbah who has problems with wild dogs.

Granted. 8hrs by car is different to 8hrs by dog population mechanisms.

Pest control is like keeping your lawn weed free.

You do a little bit all the time, once you slack off,

they will have built up in numbers. You'll probably find where

there aren't many dogs you probably have shooters on farms keeping 

them under control.

A few years ago chinchilla shire we're around if not over $200 per scalp. Such was the reward for mitigating community losses.

Yeah, it's all relevant to the value of the livestock and the amount of

dogs.

Some farmers will post a 1 or 2ooo $ bounty for a dog that's hard to get.

You'd find if every council paid a bounty there'd be a lot less dogs, ammo and petrol are

not cheap.

The losses are significant. But the real kicker with wild dogs is that the damage is more for play than necessity much of the time.

SEQ water has a regular 1080 programme around quite a few of their dams and a lot of councils will give the baits free. Quite a rigorous process to use 1080 to prevent bycatch.

That's why I reckon you're better off using shooters/hunters.

Target the one animal and no bycatch, hate seeing the birds/lizards getting baited.

Ray have ever seen any near Npd? Ive seen 1 from kayak in bush near power lines towards sailing club area, maybe 2 years ago, but only about 4-5km as crow flies from my door step.

Quite a few over the years, on the road in , near the gate , a couple had a roo bailed up in the water on the edge of the dam and next day roo floating in the water.

It's usually game over for a dog if they try to get a roo in the water.
