FOTM General Chat - Threadfin Salmon

i have seen many of these fish on the surface within reaching disance!! when i first got here about november, im pretty sure it was at manly marina??? does that sound right, i was hitting them in the head with a lure LOL no strike, i tried plastics, HB, and bread no luck.. if any one is going to try for these from land today or tomorrow i would be very interested in comming along for a look see...

Mate, I'd have a guess and say maybe they were big mullet if they were just cruising around on the surface.

I don't really know but I'd assume if Salmon were on the surface it'd be because they were smashing prawns or something. Were the fish actively feeding?

Dan, I have seen one just under the surface near Fig Tree Pocket, and I know that Malcolm has seen a school of big ones just sitting there as well.

i have been to manly harbour a few times and fished rock wall and william gun jetty constantly last yr but i had never seen anything apart from GT and pike

how do u get live prawns, yea WAS MANLY HAROBR UP A ROAD BY MANLY YACHTING ASSOCIATION SOMETHING OR RATHER IN THE MARINA, THE ROAD RUNS RIGHT TO WATERS EDGE LOL

u can cast net for them. i have seen good size prawns caught at shultz and boggy creek

Yeah i remember malcolm telling us during BFo that he could see some threddys at 17 miles but its hard to get your boat in there. Apparantely they were jsut under the surface.

I know the rain is a good thing but its a real bummer for my area of the river. Only catties n eels. Was greatly looking foward to targeting them this month.

i soaked a live prawn for ages last night at newstead pontoon but not a hit from any fish

The details I read was from the page that is displayed when selecting Fish of the Month from the menu under Fishing. I have pasted a bit of it below. As it mentions that you can show it (preferably next to something to gauge scale i a ruler or your hand) I thought I might as well post it.

If someone else has one with better proof then me then so be it. I enjoyed catching it and anything else is a bonus. Kids had fun as well.

"To be eligible for the prize, you will need photographic proof taken on the day of the catch showing the whole fish (preferably next to something to gauge scale i a ruler or your hand), as well as a photo of the angler with the fish. You will be able to capture all of this in one photo generally but with some of the larger species you may need to take a couple, one showing the whole fish and one showing the angler with the fish, although in this shot the fish does not have to be shown in full (ie for large fish that are not taken out of the water) "

Well, there were two little ones caught by my brother and Do$tylz in cast nets that didn't get their picture taken:silly:. But no where near as big as that one:)

Nice work on your salmon mate!

But overall, what a crappy month for salmon! I remember Jeff was getting stuck into them this time last year in the upper reaches, and even around BRC time in December, they were firing around the mouth. The rain has certainly mixed things up.
