side imaging sounders

HAs anyone used or seen in action the new humminbird side imaging sounders.

i had a play with the older model a couple of yrs back and was well impressed it was the closest thing ive seen to a picture of the bottom

Yeah mate has hummin bird one on his boat. really good sounder, we sound up train tracks all the time

Ordered 1 yesterdat from the stated. half the price of 1 from Australia.

Only prob is all units are in imperial and cannot be changed. I dont really care as i have another sounder and GPS in the boat anyway.

Spare transducer also ordered for the Yak when i buy 1.

Good idea getting the second one for the yak. At least that way you'll have a clear image of the big shark as it approaches from the side:laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Sharks are fine as long it shows me the midget on the other yak coming to steal my fish. lol

Shortie - how well does it go in a 30 knots wind effected swell and chop ? :ohmy: :laugh:

It performed perfectly. Could see a great clear bottom at full speed. The side imaging was very interesting.

Do these have a good enough resolution to see something like a big cod next to log or not quite that good?

I havnt had the opportunity to fine tune its use yet. If you search for info on it there are some pretty awesome pics available of what you can see with them.

nice link ellicat, judging from those pics i reckon you could identify a big cod or similar structure hugging fish if it were holding in a hole, or among a submerged tree.

Hey Shortie how have you found you humminbird? Looks like it's out of my price range atm unfortunately but would like to know how you find it all the same. Would be incredible for the river? Does it give a good picture through such turbid water?

The sounder is great.

See the bottom clearly at full noise.

The side imaging is good in shallower water. ie river creeks. Its amazing what you can see.

Outside in deep water found itnot as effective.

Yes i would buy 1 again. Its way better than the lowrance that i already had.
