offshore monday 4th august

went offshore again today

pretty slow day overall but we got some good fish

and lost another jig to a big aj

we caught 2 cobia 24kg and 25kg gutted and gilled

1 hapuka cod around 10kg

1 good snap around 5.5-6kg

some small pearlies and snaps plus lots of undersize

lost 2 sharks around 100-150kg lol

also got pics this time lol

I would say that is actually a Bar Cod. Coming from only 120m confirms it. The white edge to the tail is the give away. Hapuka are more elongated and Bass Grouper have a black tinge or certainly no white tinge to the trailing edge of the tail. I put a couple of pictures up a while ago of a couple we caught on other sites and that was the consensus. Ours were from 227m and 350m. There are some good species ID pics of the deepwater ooglies on the NSW Fisheries website.

nah it was long and skinier than normal cods not the round shape they normally have smithy

but i just looked up both fish on google images they both look very very similair so u might be right

also it tasted very very very nice one of if not the best fish ive eaten
