New toy

New toy arrived from Japan last night. Went and tried it out and all I can say is the reel redefines what is possible with a baitcaster. Haven't bought any braid for it yet, but spooled with some 12lb mono that was a gift from Bass.jp.

Made some casts around Breaky Creek and started with bass lures, then down to jackal chubby, eventually was blown away when i found myself casting 2" Gulp Shrimp on 1/22 and 4" jerk shads on 1/40th HWS effortlessly.

Simply amazing.

Oh yeah, it's an Alphas R :cheer: [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/both.jpg

Yeah I got mine today and found the same spooled with 16lb PE it casts the lightest weights effortlessly almost as good as the pixy with the Ultra ultra light stuff but better than the pixy with anything heavier than an sx48, mine matches Beatifully to my 6'6" 6-12lb IMX.

Yeah mate, love the look of the Ito Ai but it is FW only and according to some reputable sources the R is actually a higher performing reel.

Some possible "supertuning" will be Carbontex drag washers, extra bearings in the handle and if I can get my hands on one, I'd love an ito plate.

But realistically the reel is perfect standard, but the other stuff would just make it look cool and have even higher performance.

the other reels is just an Advantage HSTLA, nothing special just put it there to show how small the Alphas is.

According to tackletour the HLC isn't really any better than standard Zillion and they couldn't achieve any further distance with it. I haven't fished any Zillions though, but from what I can gather they are a solid power fishing reel but getting a bit old now.

Edit: Checked and the Zillion isn't as old as I thought it was but still doesn't seem to have the same cred as a few other reels.

Here's the HLC review I was talking about
