Just tryin to find out what type of berley everyone uses? I know there are lots of different types but I have an opportunity to get large amounts of whole dead crab shells and thought they might be ok as a berley mix.Any ideas??

Good stuff for reef fishing, We used to wrap in wet newspaper and drop over side for squire and cod at Coochie and pots Point.

thanx ray,like you said i thought it might have been ok over some reef or rubble for sum nice size snapper/squire.I can get around 10kgs a day for berley and thought about mixin abit of tuna oil in as well.

I also thought about breakin the shell down to a fine mix,bag it and sell it through local tackle store as a frozen product.Does anyone think that would be an ok idea or a waste of time and just keep it for myself?

well if there is still trace amounts of meat and what not in the shell it could work like prawn heads and such Im not sure about the crushed up product though? Lake kurwongbah

these are WHOLE crabs and some shells and most would contain large amounts of meat....Trav so your sayin product being whole crabs??why whole and not broken??

is there another use for them??

no if you crushed them into fine mix im not sure but if broken into pieces should be ok but i am no expert

ok I'm with ya trav I'll take a few different size bits out on the weekend and see how they flow through the water....

Forgot to say we used to chuck all the bodies,guts,small claws in a bucket and munch it up with a pick handle and freeze it . Wrapping it in wet newspaper used to help it sink. Probably left a lot of paper floating around. Used to vary frequency of dropping over with tidal flow . Intervals of between 10 min and half an hour.Never worried about tuna oil etc.
