queensland Mooloolah river jack hunt Surprise

Terry and I hit the mooloolah river yesterday for a crack at a jack, we hit the water about 3:30 and stated headin up to where we were going to start casting at some snags we were both trolling our way up when all of a sudden im snagged :unsure: over a sand bank :ohmy: so back i head to try and pull it off then the "snag" starts moving :woohoo: :woohoo: im on i yelled to terry mmm this thing has some pull:blink: I think its a ray I said to terry. "DONT LOOSE IT i WANT THAT FOR BAIT" was his reply lol. man I was giving it some stick as u can see lol

finally dragged it and the yak over to a bank so Terry could chuck it in his hull I stepped out of the yak and sank balls deep in mud :laugh: but oh well who cares lol

We headed upstream casting at all the likley looking snags Terry was first to get a hookup with a little GT from a fallen tree, I then got a small flathead sorry no pics of either. as it was getting darker we both switched to the surface I was throwing a pencil and Terry a popper. I cast into a Beautiful looking snag walk walk Pause BOOF massive hit and hookup:woohoo: Im on I yelled to Terry but before I could finish saying that I was done dusted snagged, the fish didnt even pull drag must have only moved 50cm or so and did me peddled over and did get my lure back Minus the fish :blush:

that was all the action we saw, but an enjoyable arvo on the water.

Fair size ray, theres a few nice shark baits in that i reckon.

Like they say Terry big bait big fish or in your case even bigger bait bigger the shark. I think all members are hoping to see you nail a few big ones this summer especially that tiger your after.

:lol: :lol: That sounds like my mooloolah river jack hunt last weekend. We got some bream, a little jewie 15 or so cod (biggest would have gone 35cm) and a few other things. Then the ray I got a eagle ray that would have gone much bigger than that 1 terry was holding. It nearly spooled my little calcutta and I burnt the crap out of my thumb while trying to stop it.

I jagged this one but have caught a few on plastics, I only had 8lb braid with 16lb leader

Lol that ray is nothign compared to the one I saw casually cruising under and around me in less than 2 foot of water (my mirage drive was hitting the bottom every now and then!)

An absolute car bonet, ask Lee I got all excited when I saw him - even tried to tempt him with a lure lol. then I found out lee had jagged a ray so I was ok with that

Good report Lee, you gotta laugh about the number baits Terry gets from a ray, he uses 12" mullet like I use a herring jig. That's about the proportion of it.
