The water is generally quite turbid, limiting your lure fishing options. Haven't been out that way in the last few weeks so am unsure on the water clarity at the moment.

In my experience fishing in slow flowing western rivers, the best lures are "loud" lures, ie ones with lots of vibration or rattles.

Bibbed: Oargee Plow's, Larger plastic Stumpjumpers, Boomerangs, etc. go alright in the bibbed lures for cod.

Spinners: check out the brand Ausspin and look at their Twinspin & Quadspin range, quite noisy spinnerbaits to get the yellas and cod interested.

Bibless: I haven't tried these in the western streams yet, but I'd love to try out the 1/2 oz TT Switchblade on the yella's they put out some fantastic vibrations. Also the cheap G Vibes would have to be worth a shot too.

Judging by the username I guess you'll be in a kayak? If so google earth is your friend, there are some good stretches of navigable water in the Moonie.

Hope this has helped.

Cheers,

Matt
