Burpengary Creek

Well felt to ill to go to work, so took the boat down to the Burpengary creek boat ramp, so I could drop the boat off and do something about the damaged rollers (from lenthalls road).

After I pulled off the damaged rollers and swapped them with others, greased the rear roller, I though well I am here, so might as well have a little spin!

So I went for a cruise down the creek. First time I have had a sounder on board in here, and it was quite suprising. The narrow part of the creek has quite good water, even though tide was half out, most places had a good 6 foot of water, with a few holes to 10 foot!

But when I got down to where it widens out near the sewage plant, I nearly ran aground. The creek was about 50 foot wide, but was only about 18 inches deep! Tide still had a couple of hours to go out, so I reckon the creek might be landlocked at low tide.

Threw a few lures around with my new overhead baitcaster, starting to get the hang of it, at least the lure is going in the general direction I cast now instead of at right angles!

Called it a day as tide was still falling and I did not know how the ramp would be at dead low tide.

When I got back to the ramp, believe it or not, 2 fisheries inspectors rolled up. If you know the Burpengary creek boat ramp, you would understand my surprise, the creek is about 12 foot wide, and totally covered in mangroves.

Anyway they were very polite, held the rope for me while I got the trailer backed in, had a yarn, one of them had owned a dehaviland, and he confirmed that was what my boat was, he was very impressed with the new transome.

They gave the boat the once over once I pulled it out. Interestingly enough he took a look at the old Johno model number, and new it was a 6HP straight away.Checked my registration and was happy. Makes me glad I registered it before going to Lenthalls!

They also checked my life jackets, had a cursory look to make sure I had no fish on board, then bid me good day! (By the way one of them was a very attractive blonde lady!)

Photo's to follow (creek only, did not get any fish)

Its a bit hard to see, but there is a 6 inch prawn in the photo,(look for the shadow then you will see the prawn) there were quite a few visible around the end of the ramp. I did not have my cast net with me

I reckon I might have found a nice little spot for a few prawns! [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/P1060004.jpg

I discovered that being in a boat on the water is the best cure of a feeling of mallise and sometimes it took a couple of days to work properly especially if the fish were biting.

I have also met the fisheries guys in some strange places, Could it be that they were skiving off the same as a couple of the fire ant eradicators who used to get in behind my mates place at oxley and take their clothes off to check each other for fire ants???????????.

I'll bung this up in the hope that the photo's eventually appear!

This is the map with waypoints and info from todays trip. The ramp is the one marked at the end of O'Leary Ave. It is actually a very good ramp)

Mkr 1 Steep bank, widens out, bamboo clump on bank

Mkr 2 Old car graveyards, half a dozen wrecks along northern bank. Good looking structure

Mkr 3 Car access to creek here, 12 foot deep hole on south west side of bend

Mkr 4 Gets very shallow here (18 inches deep full width 2 hours before low tide) Cut through to other loop

Mkr 5 Creek getting wider and shallower from here (3 foot deep down to 2 in places)top Prawn spot I reckon! (Not worried about adjacent Sewage plant, Caboolture's plants all produce A plus, which is what Hollywood Pete is putting in your taps shortly)

Mkr 6 Creek opens up from here (no meeting of mangroves overhead)

Mkr 7 Big underwater snag,(fallen tree) way through against southern bank.

Remember I posted that there were a pair of tossers in here with a jet ski? Look what is visible about 12 foot of the end of the ramp.

How they missed this I have no idea. [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/P1060002.jpg

Edge of boat ramp on left, shot up the creek from the ramp, as you can see it is very narrow. Still about 5 feet of water in the middle at this stage (2 hours before low tide) [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/P1060003.jpg
