queensland Albert River 16/3

Went back to the Albert with Graham and John this morning. This time we went in Grahams boat ( 3.95 allycat with 25 hp 4 stroke yahhmy).

We launched at Ramu Street with the aim of exploring upstream but alas the boat couldnt get up on the plane with 3 old fat buggers in it so we only got as far as the distillery.

Threw the cast net for a heap of boney bream and anchored up in a promising hole in about 27 ft of water.

We each got a shark all around the 80cm mark and lost a couple.

We were using floats with the bait about 6 ft under. Whenever we tried fishing on the bottom the crabs just killed the bait.

Lots of baitfish on the surface and i tried fishing on the top but the sea eagles swooped on the bait every time. Quite spectular but a B nuisance.

Do you eat many of these guys?

Nowhere as nice as barra but ok as long as bled otherwise some of them seem to have a iodine taste.

Italian nabours love them and I usually swap for some fresh home made pasta that way we are both happy.

Ray... How would one go about bleeding a large fish/shark? Does this improve the eating quality?

Kezza, cut the tails off (or ring bark them) is the normal way to bleed a shark.
