Berkley Frenzy split ring replacement?

Just bought a few Frenzys for come what may.

I have some identical Decoy split rings but the ones on the Frenzy look ok.

Do the split rings need replacement.

They have never failed me, just the hooks have bent pretty easy.

Just slap on some stronger hooks and you should be right.

I agree mate. Retro-fit the lure with some stronger owner trebles or the such, and they should be fine. Bad quality split rings will generally rust out before they bend, unless a rogue GT takes a loking to those frenzys

i just change the trebbles,the ones you get are not too good,rings seem ok .

Thanks for the replies, I am due to buy some trebles soon.

Just out of interest I am wondering what is the best way to keep you lure trebles from rusting?

I have attached a pic of a Rapala X-rap, probably had the trebles upgraded 14 months ago to Owner trebles.

The Owner trebles have degraded due to salt and I don't think I ever rinsed that lure after salt water use use.

The decoy split rings that where also added 14 months ago have handled the neglect.

you said it already dan, rinse them after use in the salt and don't put a used lure back in the same box as your unused lures

WD40 is fish oil based from memory. No dramas using it.

I use inox. I believe that wd spray may attack the plastic boxes I store the lures in

Thanks for the replies, I am such a slap happy fisho when it comes to gear, but the idea of spraying them sounds the goods.

I might also look at those Owner stingers with corrosion resistance (No doubt they will be more expensive).

That's right. This has been discussed on here before.

You can get Fish Oil too that someone uses and recommends.

I have used WD40 to spray my tackle trays (hooks and J/Heads) with no ill effect.

I've also used Lanox or Inox without any dramas.

No more rusty hooks either.

All good input I personally hang my lures on the carpet in my boat after they have had a swim and just rinse in fresh and hang up once home or if I'm land based I just take a empty container to chuck them in till I get home.

I never put a wet lure salt or fresh back in with other lures.

They have zinc inserts that prevent corrosion but the main reason is that they prevent your lures from tangleing .

I buy them in the bulk packs.

About $12.00 for a 10 pack , including shipping.

About $1.20 per lure, not bad.

Do you rinse the lures Ray when in salt?

And is the zinc effective?

I quite often forget to rinse but have no problems with rusty hooks.

Thye main advantage to me is doubleing or trebling the capacity of my lure trays without the lures becoming tangled.
