G'day,

Im Darren, 28 and only started fishing for the first time a few months ago, so far im lovin it.

I got my yearly Permit and have been fishing lake Samsonvale, started off with soft plastics, had a few nips but never hooked any so i switched to superworms, crickets and even bread and have cought a fare few Tilapia and disposed of them, about 2 small bass and nearly landed a catfish around forgons cove but had to cut the line as he got me well and truly snagged around some submerged branches.

My kit-

Okuma 6' spinning combo.

Shogun 3gk mono line.

Gamakatsu and Owner circle and baitholder hooks, i use mostly size 8-10 witch are pretty tiny but seem to work well.(I crush the barbs for easy release)

looking forward to learning more about this great sport and pastime. Cheers-

hi mate - welcome to the site. There are heaps of good people on here and heaps of knowledge. Make sure you read back through the old post as there is heaps to learn. I assume from your post that you are on the north side. You may want to try below the dam at the moment and throw a few spinner baits and small hard bodies. http://www.australianfishing.com.au/forum/2-freshwater/316922-blooding-the-stradic One warning though if you get the freshwater bug there is no cure. Just ask Ryan. Ted

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I don't really want to start a topic for this but as im a newb can you fellas give me a hand picking out a few different lures for bass, yellow belly, Cod and perch.

I have a rough idea but don't want to go spending a tonne of cash on lures that probably wont get touched.

Id apreciate it if you could pick out some of the lures you would use from BCF remembering i have a 6'okuma spinning combo and 3kg mono.

Hiya, couple different sized weight and colour spinnerbaits couldn't go wrong. Throw in a couple river 2 sea rover / bubble-pop's for the surface bite and then a couple shallow/deep diving hardbodies.. tie on a bit of leader and your off!

you wanna tip ? forget bcf, try places where the owners actually fish, the likes of jones tackle on the northside, yeah roughly around the same price but the experience these guys have compared to bcf, where a guy there will only tell you what he has dreampt of catching, and the range these guys have is way more comprehensive, compared to the empy shelves at bcf . if ya on the southside, try the tackle warehouse. huge range of everything.

That is a good point Rob, I have been to BCF lately, and asked some questions of particular lures etc, only to be given very vague answers, as they clearly didn't know what they were talking about. I still shop there occasionally, when I know what I want, as they still have some pretty good sales.

More recently, I have been in to the tackle shop at Carseldine, and gotten nothing but awesome service. The fellas in there won't try and fob the most expensive lure off on you, instead steering you to one that is effective. I have nothing but praise for the blokes in there, as they actually use the products they sell.....They get most of my business now.

Cheers,

Ryan.

Agree the guys at Carseldine are great. If on the south side I can not go past Tacklewarehouse. BCF has seemed to reduce their customer service in the last 6 months. less staff and the ones that are there are not experienced

they are good fellas from my dealings with them, the thing i like most about the more specialised shops is, if your new or starting out fishing , or even targeting a particular species of fish, they will take the time to give you the knowledge they have learnt, but wont give out marx, BASTARDS. lol. hell even 1 rainy day if ya bored go down there for a chat even, they dont mind that either, just leave ya wallet at home. if ya dont it gets bloody expensive, trust me.

Who are you kidding Rob? If you left your wallet at home you'd just start a tab

I've seen your idea of dropping into TWH for a chat :P

Welcome to the site Darren - check out Damiki's GPS spinnerbaits for the sweetwater, well worth a crack :)
