Quick question

Hi, Just a quickie,(Well thats what my missus always says to me)

Where can I buy some live shrimp on the South Side.

Was going to somerset today but postponed due to rain. the shrimp I got out of local creek (Only got 15) prob wont last till then. So want to buy some.

Going up either Thurs or Friday.

Pet City at Mt Gravatt usually get a shipment in every Thursday.

Best to phone them on 33492086 beforehand to see if they've got em.

Pet superstore at capalaba also get them in on thursdays but supply is irregular and they are quite often only 1/2 inch long. I usually get feeder crays ( Redclaw) if the shrimp are small they are not quite as good as shrimp in hinze but work ok elsewhere.

You should be able to keep your shrimp live for a few weeks.

I keep mine in an old fish tank. I use tap water but leave it stand for at least 3 days so the chlorine can dissipate before putting bait in it.

I run a air pump all the time and turn on the filter every few days. I feed them every couple of days with fish food flakes.

If you are after a cheap tank there are some at recycleland in German Church road at redland bay. They are ex aquarium breeder tanks about 3ft by 2ft six and 15 inches deep. They are painted on 3 sides and are ideal for shrimp. $10 each.

I've heard that about the Capalaba store. Pet City have good size ones usually. Around the size of the little finger and up.

Yeah 20 is the limit. Sometimes if you ask the right person nicely you may get 40.

Steve Wilkes sourses his from the Sunshine coast and the guy delivers them to his home but i think he buys in lots of at least 500. He also mentioned that someone near the brisbane markets sells them but you have to pick them up.

Steve said some Crayfish farm breeds them for him, So maybe thats a good point to start, start calling all the crayfish farms:laugh:

Thanks Fellers; Picked up shrimp from Pet City at Mt Gravatt $12 for 20 but there is around 30+ in the bag. Various sizes but not too big or too small. Plus I got the large ones I picked up at Colleges.

when u put them in the tank does anyone know if they fight or not. might need different tanks for each size group.

Like Rayke, I also keep shrimp in a tank with an air bubbler. I also put an air bubbler when they are in transit.

I have kept them for quite a few weeks with not many casualties.
